Legislative Change
Our Proposal
1. Find your legislators
2. Write or call them.
3. You can call 202-225-3121 for US representatives or 202-224-3121 for US senators.
4. BE polite and clearly express the changes you want to see to improve safety
5. • Introduce yourself and ask for a minute of their time. • Review the member profile for the legislator whose office you will speak with. • Expect to speak with a staff member, not your legislator. • Be prepared to provide your name, city or town, and, possibly, your zip code. • The call should respect the time of the person on the other end of the phone.
Our police department in Rutland City, Vermont, is understaffed and doing the best they can. Changes in laws and policies are needed to help them to do a better job. More positions need to be filled, while retention incentives are lacking. Our crimes have increased in recent years. We appreciate what the police officers do that we have.
The U.S. military veterans fought for a free country. That includes a country where people can live freely without the threat of crime. This movement can honor the police, veterans, and volunteer citizen patrols. Because the veterans did NOT fight for a country that makes people free to commit crimes. THEY FOUGHT FOR A FREE COUNTRY! Thank all of you veterans for your service! Please join in and contact your legislators with your concerns about crime. Support bills that can help improve our communities. You fought with rifles and physical combat before. Fight now with words, using your rights as free citizens.
Citizens of Vermont, contact your legislators, Senators, and Congressman, to share what changes we need. Become active in pushing for legislative change to support the work against crime in our local community. Some changes might take up to 4 years. Changes will take time. Let’s work together to make them happen.
PUT A GREEN AND BLUE LIGHT in your window or yard daily at 8 P.M. We need to persistently contact our legislators about the changes that are needed. Tell them your concerns and share stories about things that have happened related to the crime in the city. And if you see something that looks criminal or suspicious, call the police to report it

What people say about need for changed crime laws or the crime in Vermont?
Citizen Patrol
Citizens patrol is policing based on the concept that police officers and private citizens work together to solve community related problems. Some problems include crime, safety, fear and neighborhood decay. Many forms of Citizens Patrol have been in the U.S. for quite some time. Most civilian patrols have been extensions for regular police patrols controlled and sanctioned by the police. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_patrol
